š What to look for in a FISH OIL
Hi friends, I recently posted on IG what to look out for in a fish oil. I had a lot of reaction from women who were surprised by some of this information so I wanted to make sure I yell it from the rooftops so more people are aware.

Starting with this VERY important fact.
Did you know the FDA doesn't regulate supplements? Seems a bit crazy but it's true so you really need to know what you are putting into your body when it comes to supplements. Mainly because you want to make sure it's safe but also, why waste your money on something that doesn't even work?
What are the benefits of fish oil?
So many things here are some top ones.
Reduces blood pressure
Helps cholesterol levels
May reduce symptoms of mental health, like bipolar disorder
May reduce inflammation- if you or someone you know has an autoimmune disease this is great thing to take!
Heart Health
Cognitive benefits- It may help with diseases like Alzheimer's- more research is being done on this but, hey, I'll give it a shot. It also increases memory and blood flow to the brain.
Now, here's what you came for. What to know when searching for the right brand.
š What kind of fish is it? If your bottle doesnāt tell you. Donāt ingest that!
š£ You want wild caught, think anchovies, mackerel, and sardines ( cold water fish) Also small fish with shorter life spans are more sustainable.
ā you want a minimum of 500 mg of EPA plus DHA but honestly thatās on the lower side , you could benefit from a higher dose.
š Your capsules shouldnāt smell and you shouldnāt have fish burps! (you should be able to chew the capsule and it shouldnāt taste fishy) if it does itās probably rancid. Donāt eat that.
ā Make sure it has the symbol that reads Friend of the sea!
If it doesnāt its not that good for the environment. Other options that are environmentally friendly is green lipped mussel oil.
BOTTOM LINE:
š« donāt try to save a buck when it comes to your supplements! They are NOT regulated by the FDA and if itās cheapā¦ thereās probably a reason for that!
Here are some brands that I love and my naturopathic Doctor also recommends (she knows her stuff!)
Nordic Naturals- these are a capsule and the fish is sardines and anchovies :)
Carlson's - Liquid This is more cost effective than the capsules and you can add to your water. Doesn't taste fish-y just tastes like lemon water.
I'm totally going to be upgrading my fish oil because of this!!
