If you haven't heard of forbidden rice before I'm glad you're here because it's an amazing carbohydrate full of good things to fuel your body with.
Often referred to as a superfood, it contains more protein than brown rice, is packed full of antioxidants and is said to have several other health benefits.
Forbidden rice goes way back in history, in ancient China, supposedly black rice was forbidden to commoners and reserved for those in the royal families.
Good thing it's more available these days because I absolutely love the nutty flavor and texture. Speaking of more protein than other rice varieties, for every 100 grams, black rice contains 9 grams of protein, compared to 7 grams in brown rice. It is also a great way to get in fiber and iron.
It is also naturally gluten-free, which I'm a big fan of, since I have a gluten sensitivity. Since black rice contains a good amount of protein and fiber it may even aid in weight-loss by helping you feel full longer.
